Jack's Daily Excerpt:
You expect to see rampant picture-taking and camcordering on a regular cruise, but it's here on the Malaspina too. There're people out on the decks snapping away at the truly impressive mountains, people who don't know that mountainscape shots look nothing like they look to us here onboard, that it's not even a puny, disappointing husk of the view we get in person. It just doesn't show up. Or maybe they do know it and don't care, part of the tour experience requires snapshots, whether they turn out or not, something about validating through the recording process, like the vacation never really happened unless there's these grainy, unimpressive photos of things everybody knows are just incredibly more impressive in reality. I'm participating in it myself, asking Jessamyn questions like "Do you want me to take a picture of you eating lunch?" and "Should we get a picture of our northernmost point?"
